Being healthy is about way more than a healthy eating plan. Getting active is a big part of that. Being active and healthy means not just regular exercise, but incorporating activity throughout your day.
I always knew that regular exercise and activity was important, but I read an article recently that woke me up to just how crucial it is.
Phil and I went for a road trip to a ski village near here (Mt Tremblant) a few weeks ago, and I’ve been meaning to include some clips from our hike up to the top of the hill in a video here.
It never seemed to fit the topics I was talking about, so I finally had to make the topic fit the video 🙂
You can get activity on your vacation, like we did, by going for a hike or a bike ride. You can get activity in your daily life by walking to the grocery store, and getting up every hour from your computer or desk to stretch or go for a little walk.
Even gardening counts as physical activity. There are so many ways to be more active throughout the day! All you have to do is find the ones that work for you.
I mentioned this article in the video – Sitting Too Much Linked to Breast and Colon Cancer. You should read it, there were a couple of quotes from research presenters at the American Institute for Cancer Research annual conference that blew me away.

I always knew that sitting around too much wasn’t good for you, but it’s shocking to see that the rates of cancer increase so much regardless of whether the people were exercising.
The stat given in the article for colon and breast cancers is “overall risk reductions of about 25 to 30 percent associated with higher levels of physical activity.”
When you think of all the money and all the time spent researching cancer treatment and prevention, and then think about how little effort being physically active takes, it seems like it’s just too easy…
Healthy eating habits and a vegetarian or vegan diet plan are really important, but it’s also important to look at your whole lifestyle to make sure you’re truly healthy.
