Green smoothies are a great thing to look for when traveling, to keep up with a healthy eating plan.
They give you a good boost of greens and fruit for nutrients and energy.
There are more and more smoothie places cropping up, and lots of them offer something with greens.
It makes for a big cup full of healthy foods to eat on the go.
My husband Phil and I were in Portland, Maine, for the afternoon.
When the sun came out, it got really hot and we happened to pass by a green juice and smoothie cafe.
There are small local smoothie places, like the one we found, and larger chains you can find in mall food courts.
Smoothie places make it so much easier to find something you can eat on a vegan diet plan, even when you’re surrounded by hamburgers and chicken nuggets.
My favorite chain is Booster Juice, because they use all fruit and no sugary syrups.
That’s something to check before getting a smoothie, because lots of places use syrups.
One of my favorite ‘boosters’ you can add at Booster Juice is a spirulina, barley and wheatgrass blend.
The smaller places are always fun because they come up with some really yummy creations, like the one we got.
It was called Belly Bliss. And Kiara was nice enough to let us film her making it…

Belly Bliss Smoothie
From Maine Squeeze, Portland
- 1 banana
- 4 dates
- 1/2 cup mango
- 1/2 cup parsley
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 cup apple cider
- 2 cups ice
She put everything into a high-speed blender, and let it run until things were smooth.
There were a few little bits of date at the bottom, and I happily scooped them out with the straw 🙂
If you don’t have a high-speed blender (like me), you can freeze the fruit and blend with a bit of water to get a very similar result.
Phil and I took our delicious green smoothie to a park nearby, and went for a walk along the waterfront.
Healthy diet plans are important, but so is getting up and active – especially when you spend your day sitting in a car!
